Jeff's Priorities
Be a non-partisan, independent voice for the people of North Carolina. The Attorney General isn’t about left or right – it’s about doing what’s right on behalf of the people. Partisanship has no place in the conduct of the office.
Tackle the fentanyl epidemic. We’re losing an average of nine people each day in our state to overdoses. We need to disrupt the supply of this deadly drug by targeting the distribution cells that operate within our state and we must ensure high-quality treatment for those with life-threatening addiction.
Strengthen our defenses against the next generation of scammers. Artificial intelligence is about to make scammers much more sophisticated. That means our defenses must become more sophisticated. As Attorney General, Jeff would ask the General Assembly for new tools to keep people safe from A.I.-enabled scammers.
Protect veterans and seniors from fraud. These two communities can be especially vulnerable to fraud attempts and my office will make their defense a special priority.
Save taxpayer money by ensuring that government services are used honestly. Medicare and Medicaid fraud has the potential to drain tens of millions of tax dollars from our budget. The consequences for fraud must be clear and certain to deter those who would make the attempt.
Support law enforcement. As a former prosecutor, Jeff worked directly with law enforcement on major felony cases like first-degree murder and sex offenses. He knows that law enforcement deserves our respect for the crucial role they serve, and that recruiting and retaining high-quality officers means ensuring competitive salaries.
Defend your constitutional rights. Equal protection under the law means that you are guaranteed certain legal protections, no matter your race, gender, faith, physical ability, or orientation. The Attorney General serves a crucial role in defending you against those who would violate your constitutional rights.
Protect our air and water. If polluters know that they’ll be forced to pay for their pollution, it creates a deterrent effect. The Attorney General must be a good steward of the land by ensuring a clear and predictable approach to its defense.
Represent the state with excellence and integrity. A core duty of the Attorney General is to represent the state in all legal matters. It is crucial that the Attorney General provide this service to the best of their ability, and that the North Carolina Department of Justice have the resources to complete the mission.
